This book was great; let's put it this way: I read it within two days—that is how good this book was. Evan Bright is the 17-year-old illegitimate daughter of King Alexander the Second of England. Just shy of her 18 birthday, is when she is kicked out of the latest boarding school for fear of being arrested. She is brought to England to be protected. It doesn't good well at first. King Alexander's wife, Helene, is a jerk. Soon a murder happens, and Evan is the prime suspect. As well as Evan meets her half-sister Mary who is also a jerk at first, but soon they become nice to each other. She works with a cousin of her stepmother to solve the crime. Christopher "Kit" is great as well. This is a great book. I love this book and would suggest it to anyone who enjoys alternative history and strong female characters.
